Equipment.

The equipment we will be using everyday on our tour is carefully chosen by us. Months of research, combined with previous experiences backpacking and cycling have hopefully paid off, although I am sure we have made mistakes. Naturally, as we will be cycling an average of 6-8 hours per day, we have tried to pack as light as possible.

This is a rough outline of the gear that we have in our panniers and a breakdown of our bikes.

The Bikes.

We will both be riding Thorn’s highly regarded Sherpa Frames which are purposely designed for long distance cycle touring. “It will take you to the other side of town, or to the other side of the planet.”  They are pretty much the same, as we have tried to cut down on carrying spares.

The components of both bikes have been chosen to make them as comfortable, strong and durable as possible. We have chosen Shimano XT chainsets, SRAM cassettes and of course Brooks B17 saddles.

We will be keeping our underpants and other essential items nice and dry in Ortlieb’s reknowend panniers, bar bags and stuff sacks. Dan is carrying his on Tubus Racks and Tim on Thorn’s own.
